Capturing customer signature on mobile app — which fields?

Hi Connor, happy to help! You'll need to set up a signature field in your checklist or form template first — the mobile app can't capture signatures without a configured field to store them in.

Here's how to get this working:

1. In the web app, go to Settings > Forms & Checklists
2. Create a new checklist or edit an existing one
3. Add a Signature field type to your template
4. Assign this checklist to the relevant Job Types so it appears automatically

Once that's done, your technicians will see the signature field in the mobile app when they open the job checklist. The customer can sign directly on the device screen.

lol yeah its in the checklist template not just like a random button somewhere. gotta add the signature field there first or the app has nowhere to put it

ok so i went to settings and i see forms & checklists but when i try to add a signature field it says i need admin permissions? im just a regular technician account i think. do i gotta bug my dispatcher to do this or can they give me permissions somehow

Connor, that's right — only users with Admin or Manager roles can create and edit checklist templates. Technicians can fill them out but can't modify the templates themselves.

You'll want to ask your dispatcher or operations manager to either:

• Create the signature field in the template for you, or
• Temporarily upgrade your role if you need to build this out yourself

Most teams prefer the first option so template changes stay centralized. If they're not sure how to set it up, feel free to loop them into this thread and I can walk them through it!

Pro tip: if your dispatcher is busy, just ask them to add the signature field to your standard job closeout checklist. That's what we did at my old company — made it required before you could mark the job complete. Saved a lot of "did you get the signoff?" back and forth later.

wait so can you have multiple signature fields? like if customer wants to sign and also the tech signs off that work is complete. or is it just one signature per job

Teresa, yes! You can absolutely add multiple signature fields to a single checklist. Just add separate Signature fields and label them clearly — e.g., "Customer Signature" and "Technician Acknowledgement."

The mobile app will display them sequentially, and each signature is timestamped and tied to the user account which helps if you ever need to verify who signed off on what.
